This book provides numerous examples of successful and not-so-successful pay packages. In Chapter 7 you will find an illustration of how an investment analyst may view your company's pay practices. The illustration looks at an example of a poorly performing company that has unusually poor pay practices. The approach of this book is that there is no best way to compensate a CEO. Rather, in the determination of CEO pay, the board should strive to tie the business strategy with the operations of the executive team to produce superior business results.
James F. Reda has more than 12 years of executive compensation consulting service and has advised more than 400 companies. He is a senior manager with Arthur Anderson LLP in Atlanta, where he specializes in senior executive employment arrangements, change-in-control metrics, business combinations, and long-term incentive arrangements.
Jim McMahon spent 20 years as a consultant with the Management Compensation Services division of Hewitt Associates. Upon retirement, he founded the Analytical Consulting Companies in Phoenix. Through its subsidiary, Analytical Compensation Services, the firm assists organizations on salary administration issues, market pricing, variable pay plans, and equity compensation.
The enlightening foreword to Pay to Win, by Bruce R. Ellig (retired Vice President for Compensation of Pfizer, Inc.), reviews the history of CEO pay to show how today's executive compensation practices developed.
The best I can say is that it is disappointing, the worst - awful. More often they skim deep subjects, and the skimming only produces useless mist that leaves the beginner dumbstruck and asking "so when do I learn the meaning of life?"
This book is thankfully not at the level described above. Sonny Liston was the biggest and baddest Heavyweight fighter of them all. See Sibley's Guide to Trees for an example of such illustrations (although Sibley's tree illustrations are lacking in comparison to his bird illustrations).. If you are caring for someone with dementia I would highly recommend this book.. You will learn nothing of worth here, except an appreciation of nature.. I think this will be one of those quiet presents that will not be noticed at first. But as a book, this fails.
