Instead of deriving various formulas for all types of problems, it stresses the use of free-body diagrams and the equations of equilibruim, together with the geometry of the deformed body and the observed relationship between stress and strain, for the accurate analysis of the force system acting on a body.
I'm definitely glad to have read it, especially finding it a quick read because it was entertaining as well as informative. Vassallo's book and truly enjoyed it. This doesn't suddenly make the guide any less helpful as a result or even mediocre, it just means that those who want to avoid spoilers for their first run might want to pass on it.
