They had explanations as to why a certain photo was natural, or taboo. This was when the USA was beginning its struggle with Germany before WWII; this defeat was an important symbolic victory, Hitler ordered the sound muted so the Germans listening could not hear Schmeling's knockout count.
Later Joe Louis served in the Army from 1942 -1946, he worked on behalf of the government publicly at a time when the Red Cross was ordered to keep the Black blood supply separate;
